ALLSTARS HEADING TO DARWIN

From its humble beginnings, the Arafura Games is now recognised as a leading international sporting competition for the developing athletes of the Asia Pacific region. Held every two years in Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory, the Games is billed as a meeting of "Sporting Neighbours" and attracts competitors from all parts of Australia, nations throughout the Asia Pacific and beyond.

The Arafura Games began in 1991 as the Arafura Sports Festival with 1500 participants from seven countries competing in 13 sports. By the time the eighth Games were held in 2005, participation had soared to more than 3,000 athletes representing 32 nations, with competition in 30 sports. Over the years, tens of thousands of athletes, spectators, officials and volunteers have been involved.

The Pre Requisites

  • Must be registered member of Kiwi West Aquatics 2009-2010
  • Must be 12 yrs or older on Friday May 8th 2009.
  • Must be attending a minimum of 20 training sessions per month by the time the team is ready to leave (see coach for details).
  • Must attend 2009 Senior Summer Swim camp.
  • Must attend scheduled races (to be available Dec).
Tour Leader
Roger Gannon has accepted the position as Tour leader. Roger will be responsible for all aspects of the tour and Team Managers.

Applications for team Manager will be sought from Kiwi West members, All Team managers will be responsible for the safety & well-being of swimmers in their charge.

We are also looking for team managers that can take on a role such as:
  • Budgeting and Reporting
  • Medical officer
  • Poolside Manager
More importantly we are looking for members who have a proven ability to get the job done and able to work well within the team selected.
